An obituary was written for Australia's Great Barrier Reef late last week. It was deemed dead because of a massive bleaching event powered by warm ocean waters. Kim Cobb from the School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences has been diving in the Pacific Ocean for decades. Last year's El Nino bleached and devastated her research site about 1,300 miles south of Hawaii. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Cobb says the Great Barrier Reef isn't dead, but it's troubling.
